General Data Protection Regulation 

Introduction

In May 2016 the European Union (“EU”) published the EU General Data Protection Regulation (“GDPR”). This major piece of legislation represents the most significant change in EU data protection law since 1995. It will apply in all EU Member States as of 25 May 2018. The GDPR is a far-reaching legal instrument that will have a significant impact on all companies involved in the processing of personal data, including many outside the EU. It will increase the penalties for noncompliance, with fines of up to €20 million or 4 percent of annual worldwide turnover. In addition, supervisory authorities will have a number of broad powers.

Workshop

The workshop is designed to provide a comprehensive learning package through formal lectures, individual and interactive exercises, case studies, role plays for better learning and also through sharing the experience gathered through regular audits & working experi-ences in the industry.
India being a large technological hub for processing of global personal data with growing globalization and increase of human presence in the cyber world, the need to protect per-sonal data has become the key concern. With the declaration of European Union GDPR being enforced from 25th May 2018, organizations involved as Processors and controllers from India are bound to comply with this regulation to avoid business loss and compensa-tion to the tune of 20 Million Euros. Social media engines have swamped in the recent times exposing personal data to third parties and made personal data vulnerable. Indian regulations, data protection Principles, Frame work share governing the data flow and to identify, analyse, assess, minimize, monitor and review data protection impacts. Our one day workshop on data privacy and protection, covering the concepts and principles, frame-work and regulations, will help organizations nurture competencies of data protection pro-fessionals, who shall pledge to be a better data custodian.
